ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has unveiled a new political map of Pakistan, which includes Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) for the first time in history.
Addressing a press conference after the Federal Cabinet meeting today (Tuesday), the Prime Minister said, “This is the most historic day in Pakistan’s history.”
PM Imran said that it would now be the official map after being approved by the federal cabinet. “It will be the one used in schools and colleges,” he added.
PM Imran pointed out that for the first time in history, Pakistan has launched a political map that shows Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) as part of the country’s territory.
“The new political map is as per the aspirations of the entire nation as well as the people of Kashmir,” he remarked. PM Imran said that all political parties of the country had backed the newly-launched map.
He further said that the resolution of Kashmir dispute only lies in the UN Security Council resolutions and Pakistan would continue to make efforts for the Kashmiris. “We believe Kashmir dispute can only be resolved through political means not military,” he asserted.
On the occasion, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi congratulated the nation and the Prime Minister for the ‘unprecedented step’. “For the first time in history, PTI-led federal government has openly presented its stance before the world,” he added.
Commenting on the map, FM Qureshi said that the administrative maps have been introduced before, but this was the first time that a map reflected the aspirations of the people. “We believe that the entire Kashmir region is disputed and it needs solution,” he added.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad. Matters pertaining to the political and economic situation of the country were discussed during the meeting.
