ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has assured that the federal government would take all possible steps to resolve the problems facing the residents Karachi.
During a meeting with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry PM Imran said that the federal government would not leave the people of Karachi alone in this difficult situation.
Imran Ismail apprised the prime minister of the situation after the recent rains in the metropolis. While Imran Khan also sought to submit a detailed review report from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on the condition of storm drains in Karachi.
On Tuesday Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the attorney general of Pakistan (AGP) to approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan for seeking its help in empowering local bodies system Karachi.
According to a statement issued by the PM House Media Wing, the prime minister said, “The longstanding problems of Karachi cannot be solved unless the elected local government representatives of the people of Karachi become financially, politically and administratively autonomous in the spirit of the Constitution.”
The Article 140A of the Constitution states: “Each Province shall, by law, establish a local government system and devolve political, administrative and financial responsibility, and authority to the elected representatives of the local governments.”
