KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani has ordered to shut parks, sea view, and other places of recreational activities in the city until August 4.
According to the notification issued in this regard, parks, sea view, swimming pools, grounds, and indoor gyms would remain shut in the metropolis amid concerns regarding coronavirus pandemic.
“All places of recreational activities will remain shut during Eid-ul Azha. The city’s administration is following the directives notified by the provincial home department,” the statement added.
Commissioner Karachi also directed the deputy commissioners to strictly monitor the implementation of the announced standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.
Earlier today (Monday), the Punjab government imposed a ‘smart lockdown’ in the province, effective from midnight tonight till August 5, in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus during Eidul Azha.
According to a notification, all educational and training institutes, marriage halls, business centres, expo halls, restaurants, theme/amusement parks, play areas and arcades, beauty parlours and spas, cinemas and theatres will remain closed.
A few days back, parks in the port city were opened after the city witnessed an improvement in the COVID-19 cases. Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on March 14 shut the port city’s three major spots for public recreational activities to contain coronavirus outbreak.
In June, the Lahore administration opened various parks of the city for the general public. The public parks were opened after a 75-day closure amid coronavirus outbreak in the city.
