RAWALPINDI: A brazen gun-battle broke out on Friday evening between two groups in Rawalpindi Chontra area left 10 people dead and wounded four others, the latest in a series of public crimes that have rattled the residents of the city.
According to sources, five women, four children and a man were killed and four others were seriously injured in a clash.
Sources further said the firing incident took place in the area of Chontra police station between Azhar, Nazar, Imtiaz and Rab Nawaz groups.
Police said, “The reason for the dispute is the murder of a woman in Myal village a few days ago and long-standing enmity”.
Sources said that there was tension between the two groups due to old enmity while the incident took place after the husband of the woman who was killed three days ago, was released on bail to attend the funeral of Lord Nawaz.
Receiving information about the incident, CPO Rawalpindi rushed to the spot, heavy contingent of police cordoned off the area while the injured were shifted to hospital.
A police official said the bodies of the victims are being transported to a hospital for medico-legal formalities. “A forensic team is on the scene to gather evidence. Those involved in the incident will be arrested and punished”, he added.
