KARACHI: Security forces in Karachi have been put on high alert today (Thursday) in view of terror threats to Karachi’s red zone areas.
According to details, several main thoroughfares in Karachi’s Clifton have been closed for traffic as the high-security alert has been issued from Sindh Home Department. Sources have informed that Dolmen Mall is also under threat by the same attackers of the Karachi Stock Exchange. All routes to the buildings are closed.
In this regard, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South said that intelligence reports have unfolded security concerns regarding Karachi red zone areas, especially the consulates of foreign countries including Chinese and Russian consulates.
Police Officials informed that Shah-re-Iran and adjacent streets in Karachi’s South Zone are closed for traffic. The street going towards Seaview from Abdullah Shah Ghazi was also closed. Police are strictly inspecting vehicles and passers-by to avert any unfortunate incident.
Earlier today (Thursday), a police officer was shot dead in the Jut Line neighbourhood of District East. The officer was identified as ASI Ghulam Muhammad.
Last week, District West SSP Fida Hussain Janwari said that security forces had foiled a major terrorist plot in the city as they arrested six men connected to the Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
