CHIRAL: A 103-year-old man was discharged from a hospital in Chitral after beating COVID-19.
According to sources, Aziz Abdul Alim, a resident of Booni village, tested positive for COVID-19 on 5 July, following which he was admitted to the Aga Khan Health Services Emergency Response Centre where he received the treatment for the disease.
According to the regional head of Aga Khan Health Service (AKHS) Ismail Shah, during a two-week stay at the center, the elderly man convalesced without requiring supplemental oxygen.
Aziz was treated as a high-risk patient given his advanced age and provided him with appropriate medical care along with psychosocial and moral support – equally important during these distressing times, Ismail added.
Ismail further said in a short span of time the patient was successfully treated in the newly-set up facility. Sohail, Aziz’s son said that they were very worried about his father’s poor health, adding that they felt there was no hope of his survival.
“My father was very excited at the time of his discharge. He greeted all the staff and management while leaving the hospital and thanked everyone for taking care of him,” he added.
Pakistan on Wednesday reported 1,015 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest in the last four weeks, and 34 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the national tally of cases to 267,422 and fatalities to 5,677.
According to the government’s COVID-19 portal, 17,783 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, which led to the emergence of 1,013 new infections.
Thus far, 208,030 patients have recuperated from the disease while 52,447 are undergoing treatment, of whom 261 are struggling for their lives on vents at different hospitals in the country.
