SUKKUR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has criticized PTI-led federal government for enacting a secret ordinance to facilitate Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.
Bilawal Bhutto was referring to The International Court of Justice Review and Reconsideration Ordinance 2020 that had been enacted after the International Court of Justice’s decision to allow Jadhav to appeal for mercy.
Addressing a press conference today (Friday), he said that the ordinance was introduced to facilitate Jadhav. “Despite the expiry of ordinance’s time period, it was never presented in the house,” he added.
He further said, “PTI government should inform the nation as to why the ordinance was not presented. It is another reason for the incompetent premier to resign from his position.”
The PPP Chairman termed it an unprecedented move and said that the government should have consulted the Opposition in this regard.
“If PPP introduced such an ordinance, the media would have made our lives miserable and the Difa-e-Pakistan Council would have staged a sit-in,” he remarked.
Referring to PPP leader Khursheed Shah, Bilawal said that the party leader had strived for democracy and the rule of law his entire life. “PPP hopes that the judiciary will give us justice and grant bail to Shah,” he added.
Earlier on May 20, Pakistan had enacted the ICJ Review and Reconciliation Ordinance, under which a review petition may be submitted to the IHC within 60 days of the legislation coming into effect.
Earlier today (Friday), Kulbhushan Jadhav had been granted third consular access. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui in this regard said that Pakistan has formally informed about its decision to Indian authorities and their response is awaited.
