KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 253,604 in Pakistan, while the death toll stands at 5,320.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 1,979 cases of coronavirus were reported while 50 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 170,656 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
As many as 8929 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 149,092. Around 23,255 tests were conducted in the past one day.
Out of the total number of infections, Sindh reported 103,836, around 87,492 cases in Punjab, 30,747 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,192 in Balochistan, 14,202 Islamabad, 1,694 in Gilgit Baltistan and 1,655 in Azad Kashmir.

Out of a total of 5,320 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 1,087 deaths, Sindh 1,637, Balochistan 126, Gilgit-Baltistan 36, Punjab 2,006, Azad Kashmir 43 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 152 death.
However, the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in COVID-19 cases. Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier appealed to the nation to mark the upcoming Eidul Azha with simplicity and take precautionary measures so that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country does not rise again.
