LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has held Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar responsible for the ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by several countries.
Shehbaz Sharif took to Twitter today (Friday) and said, “Ban on PIA imposed by several countries, with the US being the latest, is a consequence of mindless & ill-thought-out speech by the aviation minister who only wanted to evade responsibility.”

The Opposition Leader further said, “Look at what he has done to the entire aviation industry besides bringing bad name to Pakistan.”
Earlier on Thursday (June 10), United States suspended Pakistan International Airline’s (PIA) special permit to operate in the country over the flag carrier’s safety measures and dubious licenses scandal.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has also issued a declaration in this regard. The statement said, “The US has suspended the flight operations of PIA to and from its airports immediately,” adding, “A ban has been placed on all types of flights operated by PIA.”
Earlier on June 30, the European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) suspended air operations of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) in Europe for six months.
UK barred PIA flights from three of its airports and Vietnam had grounded all Pakistani pilots working in the country. On the other hand, Malaysia announced the temporary suspension of pilots who hold Pakistani licenses, and UAE had also sought verification of CAA licenses granted to Pakistani staff.
