ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has once again inquired time from the accountability court for filing liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplementary reference against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
The court has delayed the indictment proceedings against Shahid Khaqan Abbasi till registration of supplementary reference. The court has instructed the file the reference till 6th August.
Last year on 18th July, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was arrested by the NAB while he was traveling to Thokar Niaz Baig in Lahore in a multi-billion-rupee case related to the award of an LNG import contract.

On 12th December, NAB Rawalpindi again filed a reference in the LNG case against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former finance minister Miftah Ismail. The reference was filed on December 03, however, the accountability court has returned the reference after raising some objections.
Additionally, the reference stated that the national exchequer will suffer a loss of Rs47bn by 2029 because of the contract. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had granted bail to Abbasi in the LNG reference on 25th February.
