Pakistan welcomes UNSC’s condemnation of PSX attack

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has welcomed the United States Security Council’s ‘strong condemnation’ of the terrorist attack on Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in Karachi.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi took to Twitter and said, “Pakistan welcomes United Nations Security Council (UNSC) strong condemnation of the attempted terrorist attack on Pakistan Stock Exchange.”

The Foreign Minister further said, “Perpetrators, organisers & sponsors of such reprehensible acts must indeed be brought to justice. Terrorism is the most serious threat to regional & international peace.”

Earlier, the UN Security Council strongly condemned the “heinous and cowardly” terrorist attack against the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) in Karachi, a move that India, according to informed sources, tried to block through its friends on the 15-member body, but failed.

According to a press release, the UNSC said, “The members of the Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice and urged all States to cooperate actively with the Government of Pakistan and all other relevant authorities in this regard.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan also issued a strong condemnatory statement, saying India was behind the terrorist attack in Karachi.

Earlier on Monday (June 29), the PSX building had come under attack when four heavily armed assailants tried to enter the building and opened fire on security guards and officials.

In an exchange of fire, all four terrorists were killed while four other security personnel were martyred. The outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility through social media.
