KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Department has suspended an officer of LG Board for being allegedly involved in bogus postings and other corrupt activities.
Rehmatullah Shaikh was a Grade 19 officer in the Engineering Branch at the Sindh Council Unified Grade (SCUG) Department. He has previously served as municipal commissioner and adminstrator in various towns of the city.
Shaikh was considered a close aide of Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah. He was allgedly involved in bogus posting in District Muncipal Corporation (DMC), Karachi Muncipal Corporation (KMC), Water Board and other organisations receiving millions in corrupt payments.
Sindh Local Government Depratment issued Order No. NO.SLGB / SCUG / AO (ENGG) / 4 (241) / 2020/480 on June 30 and indefinitely suspended the officer. He has been directed to appear before the LG Department while he will be able to collect his renumeration. A charge sheet will be submitted against him later on.
Many officers in district local bodies have hailed the officer’s suspension. Sources informed that LG Minister has received complaints that Shaikh was involved in corupt practices although the allegations could not be verified by officials.
