KARACHI: Gadap Town police alleged pocketed enormous amounts of money to allow the resumption of public transportation from Kathor area of the city despite lockdown restrictions.
Earlier sources had been reported that several public inter-city buses were being operated from Korangi to other parts of the country under police patronage.
Warraich Coach operated three buses while Gujar Coach operated several buses despite the lockdown restrictions by giving bribe to the area police.
The source said after a news report on the issue surfaced, the authorities had taken notice subsequently the illegal activity shifted to Karachi’s Kathor area with the help of police inclusion.
Sources revealed that the Gadap Town police officuiials were involved in permitting the resumption of bus services by taking Rs 3000 to 5000 per day from the transporters.
“Passengers ticket booking is going on from the pre-established booking offices in the city and passengers are called to their booking office at 3:00 pm and shifted in the high roof, Suzuki pickup, and mini truck to Kathor”, sources said.
Sources further said more than 35 buses are leaving from Kathor to different parts of the country daily, adding that which the police officers of Gadap town earns Rs 1.5 lakh daily, sources added.
Howevere, talking to MM News, SHO Nimat Bhatti denied the departure of the buses and said that “We had sent back the buses which had come within our limits while the passengers were not allowed to board the buses”.
