BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Wildlife Department officials today (Sunday), in a raid, have arrested five people involved in illegal hunts of rare birds in Bahawalpur.
According to details, the action was taken to prevent illegal hunting and ensuring the protection of wildlife in the province.
A spokesperson of the wildlife authority said, “Thirteen birds of the rare breed have been recovered from their possession,” adding, “These birds are worth millions of rupees.”
The wildlife department has filed a case against five accused under the Punjab Wildlife Act. The arrested suspected have been identified as Sajjad, Botha, Ramzan, Wazir, and Khalid.
Earlier in 2018, the team headed by Gujranwala Deputy Director Abdul Shakoor Manj of Wild Life Department recovered a hog deer and a sambar deer and shifted them to Lahore Zoo and Lahore Safari. The team was constituted on the special directives of Punjab Wildlife and Parks Director General Sanaullah.
Wildlife department officials in another raid at Ranthor road arrested two persons and recovered two calves of deer from their possession. The kids of deer were being smuggled to Hyderabad from Thar.
It is worth mentioning here that the uncontrolled hunting of several rare species has forced the migratory birds to look for other peaceful sites in South Asia in recent years.
