ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan over the hike in the price of petroleum products.
Talking to journalists today (Saturday), former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that the premier should admit his incompetence to run the country. “Inflation has turned into a tsunami for the common people,” he added.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi further said that business activities were closed and the economy is dwindling due to coronavirus pandemic and the incompetent federal government has pushed petrol prices beyond the limits of the people.
He also said that during PML-N’s tenure, people of Pakistan were purchasing petrol at Rs 87.70 with tax while today the actual price is Rs 55 and taxes are more than Rs 44.
“The 34 percent increase in petrol prices has added to the government’s failures and put a mammoth burden on the public,” the former prime minister concluded.
On the occasion, PML-N leader Khawaja Asif said that PM Imran criticized the PML-N government in 2013 and 2018 over petroleum prices and demanded resignation. “If he has the courage, he should now resign as well,” Khawaja Asif added.
PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said that the government imposed additional taxes on petroleum products through the back door, this sudden increase in fuel prices will have long-reaching effects.
