ISLAMABAD: The management of state-owned channel, Pakistan Television (PTV), is allegedly involved in corruption while incompetent people have been recruited in the channel’s board.
According to details, the administration allegedly recruited incompetent people by taking bribes worth millions. The PTV’s administration consists of members of the Islamabad High Court.
Sources have informed that senior officials of the state-owned channel have been demoted to Officer on Special Duty (OSDs), while, MDs and directors of administration are practically free from their positions.
Sources also claimed that the administration also involved in purchasing dramas expensively, arbitrary recruitments and contracts. The board also removed senior lawyers from the advisory board and appointed inexperienced lawyers as legal advisers to its chambers.
Employees have demanded the government to take strict action against corrupt elements by making new recruitments on merit through which PTV can be saved from disaster.
Earlier in 2018, TV anchor and ex-PTV, MD Dr. Shahid Masood was accused of involvement in the embezzlement of Rs 37 million in acquiring Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) media rights in 2008 during his tenure as the managing director and chairman of the state-run broadcaster.
Reportedly, the agreement was carried out with a fake company — M/s International Sports Solution (ISS) and the investigators claim that funds were also released, causing the loss of millions of dollars to PTV as the state-run broadcaster failed to acquire PCB media rights from 2008 to 2013.
