KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Company is once again the subject of severe public criticism as the power-generating body continues to irk masses with unannounced spells of load shedding for long hours in different parts of the metropolis.
The frequent power breakdowns have also deprived many water supplies which propelled residents in a number of areas to stage violent protests.
Group of angry residents from areas near North Karachi staged a sit-in at Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi on Monday to prolonged load shedding in their areas. Besides the long duration of power failure, citizens also complained of bearing low voltage and fluctuation in their respective areas.
“There is no electricity in the area of from the past 24 hours due to which the condition of the people worsened as they are forced to stay in their homes due to the smart lockdown”, the protesters said.
The resident also complained that the “K-Electric replaced the copper wires by saying that it causes frequent power outages and on the other hand, we are still facing a load-shedding in our area”.
They blamed that the KE was looting the electricity consumers of Karachi by purchasing electricity from the national grid on cheap rates and selling it to the Karachiites on higher rates. They asked to stop this unethical corporate profiteering of the K-Electric.
K-Electric authorities have launched its load-shedding for hours in the city causing great hardships to the citizens even in the hot days.
Citizens complained that they were already bound to remain indoor due to COVID-19 spreading while temperature had now been increased as a result they were facing hardships indoor without power.
They demanded the Prime Minister and other authorities to take serious notice of load-shedding particularly in a fragile situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
