KARACHI: Pakistan has crossed France in the total number of cases and has reported the 14th highest cases around the world.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan has surged to 165,062 on Friday, while the death toll stands at 3,229.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 4,944 cases of coronavirus were reported while 136 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 61,838 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases. Around 38,824 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the total number to 10,011,106.
There have been 61,678 cases so far been detected in Punjab, 62,269 in Sindh, 20,182 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8,998 in Balochistan, 9,941 in Islamabad, 1,225 in Gilgit Baltistan and 769 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 3,229 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 731 deaths, Sindh 886, Balochistan 176, Gilgit-Baltistan 416, Punjab 1,149, Azad Kashmir 17 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 90 deaths.
The Sindh government had imposed a lockdown in coronavirus hotspots areas of Karachi from Thursday evening. Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani said that a decision has been made to lock down the sensitive areas by 7 pm on Thursday for two weeks.
The deputy commissioner has submitted a report recommending the coronavirus hotspots which will be completely locked down and any movement within the area will be banned.
