GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan’s (GB) Minister for Agriculture Haji Janbaz Khan has passed away due to the novel coronavirus, a week after he was diagnosed with Covid-19.
According to the focal person for GB’s health department, Dr. Shah Zaman, “Haji Janbaz Khan was hospitalised after testing positive for COVID-19 and had been on a ventilator for the last four days.”
The veteran politician belonged to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and was elected to the GB Assembly multiple times. He had also served as the Leader of the Opposition. The minister is survived by two wives, five sons, and four daughters.
Earlier on June 3, PML-N Member of Punjab Assembly Shaukat Manzoor Cheema succumbed to the coronavirus, after a month-long battle with it.
On June 2, Sindh Human Settlement Minister Ghulam Murtaza Baloch also passed away due to the novel coronavirus, dealing a blow to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Some renowned politicians are also currently battling the deadly virus. Among them are former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif as well as PTI railways minister Sheikh Rasheed.
