ISLAMABAD: A special plane from China carrying more medical supplies to assist in the fight against coronavirus arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal and Chinese Ambassador in Islamabad received the equipment at the airport. The medical supplies include 150,000 N-95 masks, 1.5 million masks, 150,000 protective goggles and 1.5 million surgical gowns.
Muhammad Afzal informed that it was the 7th consignment of medical supplies that arrived in Islamabad from China. Chairman NDMA said that more equipment will also arrive from China to fight the coronavirus pandemic. “Pakistan’s coronavirus testing capacity has reached 50 to 60 thousand per day,” he added.
On this occasion, Chairman thanked the Chinese government on behalf of government and people of Pakistan and appreciated Chinese cooperation and support to Pakistan in this hour of trial. Chairman vowed providing the COVID-19 testing kits to provinces to meet their requirements.
He said 250 ventilators have already been provided to the provinces. While 600 ventilators were also available in the warehouse of NDMA. The authority was procuring 2,000 oxygenated beds to meet growing demands.
He said the teams of NDMA have already visited Lahore hospitals and also plans to visit Peshawar and Karachi for analyzing and assessing the needs.
On May 27, a special plane from China carrying medical supplies had arrived in Pakistan, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) spokesman. On April 20, Pakistan had received another consignment of medical emergency relief items from China.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the medical supplies include PCR testing Kits, surgical masks, protective coverall suits, N95 masks, and ventilators.
