KARACHI: Amid the rising number of coronavirus cases, the Sindh government has withdrawn its earlier notification allowing cattle markets to establish ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
In a letter, the local government department informed that it is withdrawing and cancelling the permission to set up a cattle market on the Super Highway this year.
According to the local government department, the permission was being withdrawn due to a “worsening COVID-19 situation on the ground”. However, sources have informed that the final decision in this regard would be taken in a meeting on Monday.
Earlier on June 2, the provincial government granted permission to set up the cattle market in the province for sale and purchase of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid ul Adha.
The markets were bound to implement upon SOPs approved by the provincial government. The SOPs include mandatory provision of wearing masks by all those present in the markets, readily available handwashing facilities, maintenance of three feet distance between people all the time.
Separate lines would be made for buyers and sellers to enter the cattle market while social distancing would be maintained in it all the time.
