ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned recent terrorist attacks on Wazir Akbar Khan and Sher Shah Suri mosques in Kabul that claimed the lives of several worshippers.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office said these heinous acts resulted in the martyrdom of renowned religious scholars Dr Ayaz Niazi and Maulvi Azizullah Mofleh, and claimed the lives of other innocent worshippers.
Pakistan reiterates its condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. “Pakistan offers sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and prays for early recovery of the injured,” the statement read.
Pakistan also reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and offered condolences to the families of those affected by the terrorist attack.
On June 12, a blast occurred in a mosque during Friday prayers killing at least four people and wounding at least eight worshippers. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast and the insurgent Taliban group condemned the attack.
Violence has spiked in recent weeks in Afghanistan, with most of the attacks claimed by the (Islamic State) IS affiliate, headquartered in the eastern Nangarhar province.
Afghanistan is juggling multiple crises, with the coronavirus rapidly spreading across the country and continuing violence even as the government and Taliban signal they are getting closer to sitting down for talks.
A ceasefire during last month’s Eid al Fitr holidays also sparked hopes that the two sides may be getting closer to holding negotiations even as a recent uptick in fighting has tempered expectations.
