Confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan soar to 138,378

KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan has surged to 138,378 while the death toll stands at 2,627.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 5,646 cases of coronavirus were reported while 76 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 50, 456 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases. As per details, 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
There have been 52,601 cases so far been detected in Punjab,  51,518 in Sindh, 17,450in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8,028 in Balochistan, 7,163in Islamabad, 1,044 in Gilgit Baltistan and 574 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 2,627deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported  661deaths, Sindh  816, Balochistan 83, Gilgit-Baltistan  16, Punjab 969, Azad Kashmir 11 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 71 deaths.
Amany as  2,262 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in Sindh alone overnight, revealed Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah earlier on Saturday, adding that the virus had claimed another 23 lives, taking the death toll to 816.
The chief minister further said 2,262 more people tested positive in the province during the last 24 hours, and 1,813 of them belonged to Karachi.
He said provincial health authorities have tested 10,081 samples during the last 24 hours of which, 2,262 tested positive. Now the province has 51,518 cases of COVID-19, while 23 more patients lost their lives, lifting the death toll to 816.
Shah maintained that 10,081 tests were conducted, which produced 2,262 cases that constituted a 22.5 percent result. So far, 287,135 tests had been conducted against which 51,518 cases had emerged, he added.
According to the CM, 26,315 patients are under treatment, a large number of them, i.e. 24,525, is in home isolation, where they are being looked after through the telemedicine system of the government, 92 patients are at isolation centers and 1,698 are under treatment at different hospitals.
CM Murad disclosed that 539 patients are in a critical condition, including 69 put on ventilators. The CM said that 1,274 patients had recovered and returned to normal life. So far, 24,387 patients have recovered, and they constitute a 47.4 percent recovery rate.
