KARACHI: The officials of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) have allowed illegal constructions in several areas of Karachi despite the increasing death rate of citizens due to the collapse of high-rise buildings.
The construction of multi-story illegal buildings continues in most parts of the city under the patronage of SBCA officers. Areas like Lyari, Gulbahar, Liaquatabad, and Usmanabad are the hub of illegal constructions. Illegal constructions is also rampant in North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulberg, Jamshed Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, New Karachi, and Malir Model Colony
Several buildings including three and four storey commercial flats, portions, units, multi-units, extra floors, and shops are being constructed illegally on residential plots in Nazimabad No. 1 to 4 area of Liaquatabad Town while officers continue to ignore the matter.
Liaqatabad Town Nazimabad’s Director Deputy Director, Assistant Director, Building Inspector, Senior Building Inspector are involved in construction. Plot No. 2 e 1/4 has construction ongoing on an illegal fifth floor. Plot No. 2h 8/3, 2h 13/1, and 2h 10/5 are under construction for a third floor. Plot No. 2 h 1/9 has construction in progress on the fourth floor.
Due to the increase in population due to illegal constructions, the actual residents of the area are facing problems like clean drinking water, sewerage and no electricity. According to citizens, the construction of illegal buildings should be stopped immediately.
The officials choose to remain silent on the illegal constructions of three and 4-storey commercial flats, portions, units, multi-units, extra floors, and shops on residential plots in Nazimabad No. 1 to No. 4.
Citizens have appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take immediate notice of the ongoing illegal constructions in Karachi and save thousands of lives at stake by bringing those responsible to justice.
