KARACHI: Police claimed to have arrested three robbers in the injured condition during an alleged encounter near SITE Superhighway area of the city on Wednesday.
On the orders of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) District East, Tanveer Alam Odho, a party was engaged in the usual anti-crime patrol in the area. After receiving information about the gangs of four robbers who were looting citizens, the police party reached on the spot.
“Seeing the police the robbers opened fire. However, in retaliatory firing by police, three robbers received bullet injuries”, said police.
Police arrested them in injured condition and recovered weapons, bullets, mobile phones and a stolen motorbike from their possession. His one accomplice managed to flee from the scene. The injured robbers were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
Earlier, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh Police claimed to have apprehended a gang of robbers and had recovered weapons and valuables from their possession.
According to police sources, SSP Malir had directed action against armed motorcyclists involved in mugging incidents in the area after their footage want viral on social media.
A specially-constituted police team subsequently nabbed three members of the gang identified as Zubair Khan alias Wazani, son of Musharraf Khan, Muhammad Ibrar son of Abdul Gagfar and Abdul Aziz son of Abdul Waheed.
The police also recovered looted cash 50,000, mobile phones and three 30-bore pistols from them. The police have registered FIRs against the suspects and started further investigation.
