KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan has surged to 108,317 while the death toll stands at 2,172.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 4,646 cases of coronavirus were reported while 105 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 35,018 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
As per details, 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
There have been 39,555 cases so far been detected in Punjab, 39,555 in Sindh, 14,006 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6,788 in Balochistan, 5,785 in Islamabad, 952 in Gilgit Baltistan and 412 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 2,172 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 587 deaths, Sindh 679, Balochistan 54, Gilgit-Baltistan 14, Punjab 683, Azad Kashmir 09 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 52 deaths.
Amany as 1,447 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in Sindh alone overnight, revealed Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah earlier on Monday, adding that the virus had claimed another 29 lives, taking the death toll to 679.
Of the 8,513 samples tested, 17 percent turned out to be positive, said the chief minister, adding that the province was utilising 99 percent of its testing capacity of 8,600 samples a day. With the newly-reported cases, Sindh’s tally has reached to 39,555, which amounts to 16.5 percent of the total screened samples to date.
The CM stated that 435 coronavirus patients were in critical condition and 83 of them were on ventilators, whereas 468 patients had recovered overnight, taking the total number of recoveries to 19,137.
