ISLAMABAD: Amid COVID-19 pandemic, President Dr. Arif Alvi has urged the need for adopting Innovative Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) at the government departments to improve their performance and efficiency.
While addressing at the launching ceremony of the website of Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the President said the world had switched over to paperless environment and the government organizations in Pakistan also required to assume the culture of Innovative Information and Communication Technologies, especially in the pandemic crisis.
Arif Alvi said the fourth industrial revolution through the internet, virtual reality and Artificial Intelligence had changed the pattern of life as these technologies contributed to increased communication among the public along with their enhanced productivity.
He mentioned that social media tools were changing rapidly and public departments needed to make sure easy access of the public to the government offices through effective use of these modern technologies.
Earlier, the Minister briefed the President about the role and achievements of his ministry. Zaidi also briefed the President about the affairs of his ministry, especially the measures that were taken at seaports and other related issues in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Zaidi said that effective precautionary measures had been taken in ports across the country in order to avoid the possible spread of deadly novel coronavirus to Pakistan.
Ali Zaidi said that crew members of ships coming from foreign countries were advised to remain on their vessel, adding that crew members are going through a complete screening procedure to avoid the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the country.
The minister for maritime affairs told the President that despite the difficult situation of coronavirus, the country’s ports were kept operational in contrast to other big ports of the region which had faced closure.
President Alvi appreciated the Minister for the launching of the website and the performance of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.
