NEW YORK: Mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor has announced his retirement from the sport today (Sunday) at the age of 31.
The controversial Dubliner nicknamed ‘The Notorious’ tweeted the news following the conclusion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 250 event.
In his emotional message, he said, “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been!”
He further said, “Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World titles wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours.”

In this regard, UFC president Dana White paid tribute to McGregor after the conclusion of UFC 250 in Las Vegas.
In a press conference today (Sunday), Dana White said, “If Conor McGregor feels he wants to retire, you know my feelings about retirement, you should absolutely do it.”
“I love Conor. There’s a handful of people that have made this really fun for me, and he’s one of them,” Dana White added.
McGregor, who bows out with a 22-4 record, had made similar announcements in the past in 2016 and 2019 before making his way back to the octagon.
His last appearance in the octagon was in January after a 15 month-absence when he knocked out American Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in ruthless 40-second destruction in Las Vegas.
He also holds two championship belts at the same time. He achieved that feat in 2016 when he stopped Eddie Alvarez in a lightweight title fight, adding it to his featherweight title.
