LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted pre-arrest bail to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif till June 17.
The move came one day after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team raided the residence of Shehbaz Sharif to arrest him in multiple corruption cases related to money laundering and assets beyond known sources of income.
Sharif’s legal team had filed the pre-arrest bail petition on 1st June, a day before he was required to appear before a combined investigation team of the NAB. However, the bail petition could not be fixed for hearing before the bench yesterday.
Moreover, he opted to submit a written statement to the accountability watchdog in response to a questionnaire handed over to him.
According to Shehbaz Sharif, the anti-graft watchdog initiated charges against him without any shred of evidence as he has been declaring his assets consistently. He added the money laundering charges leveled against him too are baseless.
