KARACHI: The government has paid compensation to 82 families of those who were killed in the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crash in Karachi on May 22.
According to a spokesperson for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the company had started to pay compensation to the families of the Karachi plane crash victims.
The spokesperson said families of 82 victims of the ill-fated flight have been given Rs 1 million while the two girls who were injured in the plane crash have been provided Rs 500, 000 each.
The spokesman further said payment of compensation and insurance to the families of the renaming martyrs will be made possible immediately.
A PIA flight PK-8303 suffered a tragic air crash in Karachi last month, killing 97 people on board while two passengers survived miraculously.
Later, the federal government had announced it would bear the expenses to compensate Model Colony residents whose houses and cars were damaged when the plane crashed inside the locality.
Talking to the media in Karachi, Ghulam Sarwar Khan had said families of those who were killed would receive Rs 1 million each while the two survivors would be given Rs 500,000 each.
He had announced that the government would offer compensation to the residents of the area whose houses and cars have been affected.
“A lot of damage had been done. We have instructed that an initial survey be carried out and the government will pay for the damages after the assessment has been done,” Sarwar added.
He said “The pilot had attempted to land at the airport but landing gear was not opening. The plane was crashed when the pilot made another attempt to land the aircraft”.
