KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah has said that the COVID-19 claimed record 38 lives in the province during the last 24 hours, surging the province’s mortality rate from 1.6% to 1.7%.
Murad Ali Shah announced on Saturday that the provincial health authorities have registered 38 deaths and 1,247 new infections bumping the provincial death toll to 465 and overall cases to 13,623.
He said that the situation was moving from ‘bad to worse’ as during the last two days, 69 patients have lost their lives due to COVID-19. “This is quite painful and unbearable for the aggrieved families,” CM Murad added.
The provincial chief said that 5,481 COVID-19 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours against which 1,247 cases were detected positive. “This shows a 23% result which is higher than several countries,” he added
Murad Ali Shah said that the provincial health authorities had conducted 176,703 COVID-19 tests so far, which “produced 15.5% or 27,360 cases”.
He said that 522 patients had recovered in the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries so far has reached 13,272, taking the recovery ratio to 48.5%. The provincial chief minister said that 310 patients are in critical condition while 68 of them have been shifted to ventilators.
He informed presently 12,565 patients being treated in home isolation, adding that 127 patients were in government isolation centres and 931 in different hospitals. The chief minister said that out of a total 1,247 new cases, Karachi had recorded 923.
Giving a district-wise breakdown CM said a total of 215 COVID-19 patients were registered in Korangi, 213 in East district, 183 in Central, 180 in South, 63 in Malir, and 69 in West.
He said 29 cases were reported in Ghotki, 24 in Hyderabad, 23 in Larkana, 22 in Jacobabad, 21 in Sukkur, 20 in Shikarpur, 14 in Jamshoro, 08 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 07 in Khairpur, 05 in Mirpurkhas, 04 each in Dadu and Kashmore, and 03 each in Badin and Thatta.
The provincial chief said that Sindh aimed at expanding its current healthcare facilities by establishing two COVID-19 infectious disease hospitals, one at NIPA and the other opposite Karachi University.
Murad Ali Shah said work on finishing these projects and installation of essential apparatus was going on round-the-clock. The chief minister urged the citizens to follow SOPS and avoid going out of their home without any solid reason.
