KARACHI: Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDL) in Karachi University has announced that it will complete the process of identifying bodies of the passengers that died in the plane crash in the next 48 hours.
SFDL has completed a total of 27 cross-match so far, and their reports have also been dispatched to the Sindh police department.
The spokesman of the University of Karachi said, “SFDL with the help of 20 scientists and volunteers is currently engaged in the massive undertaking of identifying bodies of unfortunate victims of the air crash.”
According to the statistics, maintained by SFDL, as many as 67 samples have been received from the families of the victims, and 69 samples of the victims have also been received from the police department so far.
It is pertinent to mention here that SFDL is the first of its kind facility in Sindh that specializes in the detection, identification and analysis of human DNA from evidence samples collected by law enforcement agencies from crime scenes.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that among the 97, who died in a plane crash on May 22, bodies of 68 had been identified and handed over to their heirs.
He said that at present 10 bodies were in the mortuary of Chhipa and 19 at Edhi. “We have identified 29 bodies through DNA and one DNA [sample] is yet to be matched.”
