KARACHI: In an effort to facilitate traders, the Sindh government has allowed businesses and shopping malls to open on weekends.
According to a notification, all shops, markets and shopping malls will open on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 5: 00 pm. However, the provincial authorities have asked all businesses to strictly follow SOPs and precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, Sindh Transport Minister Awais Shah has said that the provincial government would decide on reopening public transport tomorrow (Saturday) during a meeting of the provincial task force on COVID-19 and with the consultation of doctors.
While talking to media he said a final decision to resume public transport services would be taken in the meeting of the provincial task force on coronavirus and after consulting doctors.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced to open all markets, except shopping malls for business activity. However, soon after trade activity resumed, the provincial government sealed major markets in different areas of Karachi as traders failed to follow SOPs.
Sindh reported on Friday its highest number of coronavirus deaths in a single day after 31 people lost their lives to the novel virus.
During the past 24 hours, 31 patients lost their battle to the virus. The death toll in Sindh has reached 427 while 308 patients are in critical condition. Besides, 52 are on ventilators. In the past 24 hours, 1,563 people have also recovered from the virus.
