KARACHI: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted light rainfall in Karachi on Wednesday and Thursday.
Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted entry of fresh westerly wave in Pakistan from Iran between 12 to 16 May.
The PMD said in its daily weather report Karachi is likely to receive light rainfall on Wednesday Thursday, while there is no chance of heatwave in the metropolis.
The MET Office also predicted rainfall in Balochistan, Sukkur, Larkana and Nawabshah. It said the rain wind-thunderstorm is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
It must be noted that Karachiites experienced moderate heatwave last week as the mercury touched 41-degree centigrade.
Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted a heatwave in Sindh’s capital from next week as the mercury had expected to rise up to 42 degrees Celsius. According to the PMD, the heatwave will start from 5th May and could continue till 8th May.
Last year, Karachi witnessed a series of heatwaves that saw residents avoiding venturing out during afternoon hours and remaining indoors. The city has been facing consecutive heatwaves for the past two years in particular.
In June 2015, about 1,200 people had died in southern Pakistan during a heatwave, with nearly two-thirds of the victims’ homeless people.
