KARACHI: Police have arrested almost 25 secret water hydrants operators and sealed the illegal water hydrants in various areas of Karachi.
According to details, the action was taken on the information from the officials of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB). Cases were registered against the accused persons in Bin Qasim and Steel Town police stations.
The detained persons were involved in operating secret water hydrants and were also providing illegal water connections to the citizens in various areas of Karachi.
Managing Director of KWSB, Asadullah Khan, has urged the IG Sindh Police to take stern action against those selling water illegally in Karachi.
In his letter to IG Sindh, he informed that some people of various districts of Balochistan and Thatta are involved in selling unhealthy and chemically mixed water.
On the other hand, on the instructions of Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, various teams of Water Board officers were formed and were directed to take actions against tankers filled with unhygienic water.
Assistant Executive Engineer Rehan Iqbal, Sub-Engineer Muhammad Qaiser with the help of Police officials of Peerabad, Manghopir and Saeedabad took action against 18 persons who were involved in selling unhygienic water in Karachi and sealed an illegal hydrant. Police arrested 18 suspects and seized the tanker.
Another team led by Water Board Sub-Engineer Mumtaz Magsi along with the Police personnel took action against seven tankers entering Karachi from outside the city. Police then arrested 7 accused and seized the tankers. Later, Mumtaz Magsi, head of the waterboard team, registered cases against the accused at Steel Town and Bin Qasim Town police stations.
