KARACHI: Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) have launched an investigation against the corrupt officials of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).
According to details, corrupt officials of the SBCA have allegedly received almost Rs 12 million as bribe through the help of private beaters during the past two years.
Relevant sources have informed that most numbers of illegal buildings in Karachi are constructed in the District Central, followed by District East.
Sources claimed that the corruption of almost Rs. 12 billion is a pattern of bribery in the form of illegal constructions. These include constructions on occupied plots and construction of additional floors without permissions.
The lavish lifestyle of the private beaters has attracted the agencies. The private beaters are involved in granting permission for illegal construction, occupying lands, and usually play the role of facilitators of corrupt SBCA officials.
According to SBCA sources, more than 17 private beaters across Karachi were recently suspended, including nine key beaters from Liaquatabad and North Nazimabad. Sources also claimed that most of these beaters are criminals and have been imprisoned in several cases.
In this regard, the investigative agencies have expressed surprise on the access of such criminals to senior SBCA officials. The investigative agencies have informed that stern actions will be taken against the corrupt SBCA officers and the private beaters.
