KARACHI: Another policeman has passed away in Karachi after contracting the novel COVID-19 on Tuesday. He is the second police official in the metropolis to have died from the coronavirus.
According to Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell Senior Superintendent of Police Sarfraz Nawaz Shaikh, the deceased had tested positive on April 25 and had self-isolated himself at his home in Landhi area of the city.
His symptoms turned severe today and he passed away when he was being taken to the Indus Hospital, the police official added.
Nawaz Shaikh further said said that the deceased was suffering from a minor heart problem which may have worsened due to complications caused by Covid-19. The 55-year-old Anees had been posted at Malir AVLC DSP’s office and was a resident of Landhi area.
According to the SSP, two other police officers in the AVLC department have tested positive for the COVID-19.
Earlier, a 58-year-old ASI Anwar Jahangir succumbed to the deadly virus on Monday. The former wireless operator at the SSP City office was also self-isolating at his house.
There are around 99 police officials who have tested positive for Covid-19 in Sindh, with at least 70 cops infected in Karachi. Three police personnel in Karachi have recovered from the COVID-19.
