RAWALPINDI: A female doctor passed away from the COVID-19 at Holy Family hospital in Rawalpindi, it emerged on Saturday.
The hospital’s medical superintendent confirmed that a 26-year-old female doctor died due to coronavirus.
Superintendent Shehzad revealed that on April 20 Dr Rabia Tayyab had complained about mild flu and cough symptoms which the doctors declared as’ normal fever’.
He added when her condition worsened after four days, she was brought to the Holy Family Hospital. She was put on a ventilator but died on 30 April.
The doctor hailed from Gujjar Khan in Rawalpindi and was the daughter of famous teacher Mohammad Tayyab.
She graduated from the Quaid-i-Azam Medical College in Bahawalpur and was due to start her house job from May 1.
According to National Emergency Operation Centre report, at least 191 more healthcare providers and medical workers tested positive for the COVID-19 within a week. The total number of infected medical workers in the country has risen to 444.
The report showed that 216 doctors, 67 nurses and 161 healthcare staff tested positive for COVID-19 across the country. Of these, 204 were in isolation at homes, 138 were admitted to hospitals while 94 had recovered from the disease.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases surged to 18,114 in Pakistan on Saturday, while the death toll stands at 417.
According to National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 1,297 cases of COVID-19 were reported while 32 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 4,715 patients have recovered from the disease, while 153 are said to be critical as country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
As per details, 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
