ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker, Asad Qaiser has become the highest government functionary to test positive for the novel coronavirus.
Asad Qaiser took to Twitter and announced that he and his children – son and daughter – have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Asad Qaiser further said, “My coronavirus test has returned positive. I have quarantined myself in my house.”
“Today, when I had myself tested again, the report came out positive,” he added. “The test results of my son and daughter have also come out positive,” he said.

The National Assembly Speaker also urged the people of Pakistan to take precautionary measures to practice social distancing to ensure safety. He also requested the nation to pray for his recovery.
His announcement comes three days after Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, tested positive for Covid-19. Qaiser is the latest politician to have contracted the virus.
So far, coronavirus has claimed lives of more than 350 people and has affected more than 16,000 people across Pakistan.
Earlier on Tuesday, independent Senator Mirza Mohammad Afridi had tested positive and subsequently went under isolation at his home in Lahore.
