ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services Zafar Mirza has said that the government would soon announce a national plan for the safety and protection of frontline healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad today (Tuesday), Zafar Mirza said that the government was working on the national plan with consultation with the provincial health ministers and the Pakistan Medical Association
“We need to work together for the safety and protection of our health workers,” the Special Assistant.
Zafar Mirza further announced that a martyr status would be accorded to those health professionals who lost their lives in the fight against the deadly disease.
The Special Assistant also said, “The families of the deceased health professionals will be given a relief package at par with the martyrs of the armed forces.”
He announced that 100 percent pension, government house, and a compensation cheque up to Rs 10,000,000 will be given to the families.
Zafar Mirza said that the government has decided to make national guidelines regarding the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). He said that training sessions will also be arranged regarding PPE use.
He said, “The rate of daily coronavirus deaths reported in Pakistan has remained the same for the last two weeks,” adding, “We hope that deaths will start decreasing.”
In this regard, the special assistant urged the people to follow the precautionary measures and practice social distancing during Ramazan.
He also warned that the government will increase the lockdown if people don’t follow social distancing.
