PESHAWAR: A senior doctor working at Peshawar’s Hayatabad Medical Complex passed away on Saturday due to health complications caused by the COVID-19.
According to Hayatabad Medical Complex Director Dr Shahzad Faisal, Professor Dr Mohammad Javed had contracted the COVID-19 at Hayatabad Medical Complex.
The director said that Dr Javed had tested positive for the COVID-19 a week ago and was on a ventilator. He is the first doctor in the province to die of the coronavirus.
Faisal said Dr Mohammad Javed was an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist and had been working inside the coronavirus ward at Hayatabad Medical Complex, adding that Javed was on the front lines to combat the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan expressed grief over the death of the senior doctor and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
The chief minister said that the services rendered by the deceased doctor will always be remembered.
The chief minister has nominated Dr Javed for a civil award. He also announced special package for the heirs of the doctor.
KP chief minister’s focal person Furqan Kakakhel has confirmed that its local government aide has been infected by novel COVID-19 on Saturday.
“Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for local government, Kamran Bangash has been tested positive,” Kakakhel said in a statement.
KP has recorded more than 1,700 cases of the COVID-19 so far, with 89 deaths — the highest number of deaths across Pakistan.
According to sources, two female doctors in Peshawar’s Lady Reading hospital were infected with the COVID-19. Sources added that the two doctors tested positive and were shifted to a quarantine facility.
Doctors and medical staff across the country have constantly urged the government to enforce stricter lockdown steps and to give them with the appropriate safety equipment in the battle against the COVID-19.
