PESHAWAR: Another doctor has died after contracting coronavirus, raising the infection death toll in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to 89.
According to details, Dr. Javaid died due to the disease after battling for his life at the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Hayatabad where he was treating coronavirus patients.
Dr. Javaid was the ENT specialist at the hospital. He had been diagnosed with the deadly virus a few weeks back. He was kept on a ventilator.
He is the fourth doctor in the country who succumbed to the virus. The death of doctors has raised safety concerns among medical staff who have been complaining about a lack of proper safety gear.
The number of infection cases in the country has surged past 11,940, as 785 new cases were reported over the past 24 hours. The number of casualties from coronavirus has risen to 253.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 785 cases of coronavirus were reported while 16 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 2,755 patients have recovered from the disease, while 127 are said to be critical as the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases. A total 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
