KARACHI: First official of the Sindh police has recovered from the novel COVID-19 on Saturday.
According to police sources, the official identified as Yaseen Gujjar was admitted to Indus Hospital after he developed COVID-19 symptoms and later tested positive for the infection.
The official who was deputed at the South investigation branch tested negative for the disease today and would be discharged from the hospital.
Earlier, on April 20, at least 15 police personnel had tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Karachi.
According to sources, among the coronavirus positive policemen are two inspectors and many sub-inspectors, while most of the remaining officials are either head constables or constables deputed at different places in the metropolis.
According to a list of infected police personnel, except one inspector who tested positive in March, all other policemen had tested positive in the last 20 days.
Police sources said 22 family members of one coronavirus positive policemen were tested for the disease, out of whom 8 close relatives turned out to be positive.
Police sources said more than 5,000 constables are performing duties across the metropolis in various shifts. They come into direct contact with citizens while discharging their duties on roads.
Police sources further revealed that thousands of police personnel who were deployed to enforce the lockdown announced by the provincial government to limit the spread of coronavirus found themselves on the frontlines of the crisis without proper personal protective equipment (PPE) or training.
