ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari has said Maulana Tariq Jameel’s misogynistic and ignorant comments blaming women and youth for the ongoing COVID-19 crisis were absolutely unacceptable.
Mazari said on Twitter “The COVID19 pandemic is a result of women wearing short sleeves or because of private schools/universities misleading the youth”, is “simply absurd”.
“This simply reflects either ignorance about pandemics or a misogynist mindset absolutely unacceptable.” “We will not accept the targeting of women on the pretext of such ludicrous accusations”, she added.
She further wrote, “We in Pakistan have fought hard for claiming our rights as enshrined in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

Earlier on Thursday, Maulana Tariq Jameel was invited to the Ehsaas Telethon to initiate a collective prayer for the general public and also to guide people on how to take precautionary measures amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In his speech, Maulana Tariq Jameel stressed the need of spirituality, faith, and rationality in order to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
Maulana Tariq Jameel also spoke about his dissatisfaction with morality in our country. He displayed his dismay over the clothing choices of women and their desire to dance.
He went on to blame the pandemic on women and young people being indecent, prevalence of dishonesty and betrayals in society, and earning through fraudulent means.
Addressing all the anchors sitting alongside the prime minister, he said: “We lie so much, we are a lying nation.”
“Who has torn honour to pieces in my country? Who makes my country’s daughters dance? Who is asking them to wear skimpier clothes? Whom should I hold accountable for this sin?” he continued.
The country’s colleges and universities, especially private schools, were making people go further away from religion, he had claimed.
He then quoted the example of the people of Lot and how Allah consequently sent them several torments because they crossed all boundaries when it came to morality.
Earlier, Maulana Tariq Jameel had apologized for his remarks against the media. Speaking to a private news channel about his remarks from the other day, Jameel said that he had made a mistake.
