Coronavirus cases in Pakistan jump to 10,244

KARACHI: The confirmed cases of coronavirus in Pakistan have surged to 10,244 after 327 new cases were reported from different areas of the country.
According to government data, until 12:40 am today, the number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan rose after new 327 new cases were reported during the past 24 hours.
According to the National Command and Control Centre, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 215, while at least 2,156 patients have fully recovered across the country.
The medical facilities have conducted 5,637 tests during last 24 hours while the total number of COVID-19 tests stands at 118,020, according to the national dashboard data.
The confirmed cases in Punjab stand at 4,590 making it the worst-hit province in the country with 51 deaths followed by Sindh, 3,373 (69 deaths), Kyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,453 (81 deaths), Gilgit Baltistan, 57 active cases including 290 suspected cases (3 deaths), Balochistan 552 (6 death), Islamabad 194 (3 death) and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, 51.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday confirmed that health officials registered 320 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours.
CM Shah has expressed concerns over the increase in numbers of local transmission of coronavirus cases in Karachi.
Addressing the citizens CM Murad said “320 new cases surfaced in Sindh today and take the total number of cases in the province to 3,373. Local transmission of COVID-19 cases is increasing and all of us need to keep our eyes open to this ominous development.”
In a video statement today, Murad Ali Shah said that the provincial government conducted 2097 tests of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, out of which 320 comes positive.
At least 30 health professionals, including doctors, tested positive for COVID-19 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.
According to sources, among the coronavirus positive health professionals fourteen of the medical staff who have contracted the infection were doctors, 11 other health professionals and five paramedics.
Citing the details sources said 11 doctors were from Peshawar whereas one each was from Bannu, Mardan, and Swat, adding that the condition of a doctor is serious. Four of the COVID-19 positive paramedics were from Peshawar and one from Shangla.
Four of the five were women, sources added. Some 26 of the 30 affected health professionals were said to be performing their duties in Peshawar.
Globally, Authorities have recorded more than 2.5 million cases and as many as 177,000 deaths since the COVID-19 emerged in China’s Wuhan city in 2019.
