KARACHI: Two dacoits were killed in an alleged encounter with police in the wee hours of Wednesday in Gulshan-e-Maymar area of the metropolis.
According to police sources, receiving information about the dacoits were looting people at gunpoint in Gulshan-e-Maymar area. A police team reached at the scene.
Upon seeing the police party, the criminals opened fire on the police team. In the exchange of fire two robbers were killed on the spot, while two of their accomplices managed to flee from the scene, police added.
The identity of the deceased robbers could not be ascertained yet, said the local police. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
On Tuesday, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh police had claimed to arrest four alleged criminals of Lyari gang war from Pak Colony area of the metropolis.
According to a spokesman for Sindh police, on a tip-off, a SIU police party conducted a raid in a house in Pak Colony area and arrested four alleged gangsters, Muhammad Anwar alias Gojh, Majid alias Kalu, Muhammad Sohail and Anwar.
The police team also claimed to have recovered a huge cache of arms and weapons including, two hand grenades, one Kalashnikov with 10 rounds, one TT-pistol with 10 rounds and other explosive materials from their possession.
