ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States (US) on Wednesday agreed to enhance cooperation in fight against the novel COVID-19.
During a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Imran Khan and the United States President Donald Trump agreed to enhance support against the disease and also discussed novel coronavirus effects global economy.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan informed the US president Donald Trump about the steps taken by Pakistani government to control the COVID-19 epidemic.
PM Khan said that Pakistan was facing a dual challenge of overcoming the plague and saving people, especially the most vulnerable segments of the society from hunger due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
He said that Pakistan has earmarked Rs 8 billion to help those who have been affected by the lockdown. The Pakistani premier expressed condolence over massive deaths due to coronavirus in the United States.
Imran Khan also thanked President Trump for the US support in the IMF and other platforms, adding that the emergency aid from IMF will help country to minimize the financial loss due to the epidemic.
US President Trump lauded Prime Minister’s telephone call and expression of support for the US efforts to battle the corona virus epidemic.
Trump assured PM Imran of the US support in fight against the pandemic. He also offered to send the latest rapid testing machine for COVID-19.
