ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) MNA Syed Amin-ul-Haque on Wednesday took oath as the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication.
The oath was administered to him by President Dr. Arif Alvi. Later, Amin-ul-Haque arrived at the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication located in Kohsar Block at Pak Secretariat and took the charge of his post. He was welcomed by senior officers of the ministry.
Haque has been given the portfolio of federal IT minister after Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, who is the convener of the MQM, stepped down after being unable to serve on his post.
The resignation had raised concerns over a rift between the MQM and PTI coalition, which were strongly denied by Siddqiqui who has vowed to continue supporting the federal government.
On April 7, Prime Minister Imran Khan reshuffled his cabinet and had named Khusro Bakhtiar as the Economic Affairs Minister. PTI leader Syed Fakhar Imam had been appointed as the Federal Minister of National Food Security and Research.
Bakhtiar replaced Hammad Azhar, who became Federal Minister for Industries. Azam Swati was appointed as Federal Minister for Narcotics Control. Swati had resigned as Federal Minister for Science and Technology back in 2018.
Babar Awan was deputed as an Adviser for Parliamentary Affairs. Shahzad Arbab was removed as an adviser, while Food Secretary Hashim Popalzai was sacked from his post.
