DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) will discuss the future of the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Chief Executive Committee’s meeting tomorrow.
Representatives from all cricket boards will join the teleconference and discuss alternative ways to resume cricket activities. The meeting will be headed by the CEO of ICC, Manu Sawhney.
The ICC has planned on considering an option to conduct the mega event behind closed doors. The decision will be taken following the increasing rate of coronavirus across the world.
The meeting, which will bring together the CEOs of the 12 full members and the three Associate Representatives, is aimed to gain a full understanding of Member priorities during this time.
The CEC will discuss the approach to rescheduling postponed series and the need for collectively reviewing the FTP through to 2023 as well as the World Test Championship and Cricket World Cup Super League.
All major sporting events have been postponed for an indefinite period due to the spread of the coronavirus. The English season and the lucrative Twenty20 Indian Premier League have both been delayed by COVID-19.
South Africa’s limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka in June became the latest series to be postponed earlier this week.
The virus could also threaten this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia, meant to start on 18th October. Next year’s inaugural World Test Championship final at Lord’s may have to be delayed if countries are unable to play their scheduled qualifying matches.
