PM appeals to stay at home during coronavirus pandemic

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday released a message and appealed people to stay home as much as possible during coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement on Twitter, the prime minister said more people show self-discipline, the easier it will be for us to manage the COVID-19 plus ease the lockdown gradually.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has already expressed fears that the coronavirus cases across the country may increase by May 20, saying that his government was concerned about the impact it would have on the poor segments of society.

On Saturday, the prime minister updated the nation about the coronavirus situation. He said that the situation in Pakistan was much better compared to other countries but expressed fears that the coronavirus cases could rise by May 20.

He said that his government was preparing to deal with the increasing number of cases but warned that it would increase pressure on hospitals. He urged not to politicise the pandemic and that a partial lockdown had been imposed keeping in mind the plight of the poor in the country.

PM Imran said that leaders around the world had made mistakes in dealing with the pandemic and had been reprimanded by media. He said that the government of Pakistan had taken steps beforehand keeping in mind the interests of the people.

The prime minister categorically rejected claims that the government was hiding coronavirus deaths. He said denounced irresponsible media reports that the death toll in Karachi has increased saying that it would create panic among the masses.

The number of confirmed coronavirus infection cases in the country has reached to 8,348 according to the national dashboard, as 355 new cases were also reported during the last 24 hours.

The National Command and Operation Centre Islamabad said 3,822 cases were reported from Punjab, 2,537 cases from Sindh, 1,137 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 376 from Balochistan and 171 from Islamabad Capital Territory.

There have been 42 deaths had been reported from Punjab, 56 from Sindh, 60 from KP, five from Balochistan, three from GB and two from Islamabad. Furthermore, 1,868 patients have so far been recovered while the death toll from the virus reached 168 with nine reported during last 24 hours.
